Happy Preschool Graduation to Alivia!!

Happy 9th Wedding Anniversary to Gregg & Amy!! (this post is in Periwinkle in honor of that special day--it's not quite purple, but not quite blue.  And FYI this is not really periwinkle, it's too purple)

Busy, busy day...getting very special presents for everyone.  Alivia got a new bike and a book.  Amy got flowers and a wall plaque that says "and they lived happily ever after".  Gregg got a coffee pot.

For the longest time Alivia insisted that she was not wearing a cap and gown.  Last Saturday we walked up to the high schools graduation and she saw all the graduates in their caps and gowns and decided that she would wear it.  Then came the actual day and she was in hysterics, hysterics ~ at 5!!, over having to wear a dress under the gown.  Why?  Because no one else would be wearing a dress and she looked ugly.  Was I having a bad dream where I flash forward 10 years?  No, no, this was actually happening! Mean mommy that I am I did not cave, and whatta ya know, every girl was in a dress and every boy in dress clothes.  I did get her some really cute pink-glitter tennis shoes to wear.  She wore them without a fuss, but she didn't love them like I thought she would.

I have mixed thoughts about preschool and this preschool.  I have been told by many that this is one of the preschools that you can tell kids have learned what they need to and are more than ready for kindergarten.  Yes, she can write, read a little, count, etc.  But I'm not sure about her social development.  Maybe it's her age, maybe it's that she didn't like her teacher, the kids in her class were brats not the nicest...I just hope that kindergarten is better...better kids/friends, teachers and as much as I hate to admit it, uniforms.  I'm all for uniforms--starting in middle school--elementary kids don't have much choice, their parents dress them.  And this is the last time we get to dress them and they have such cute clothes for this age.  But on the other hand, I will no longer have to fight with my mini-Amy who only wants to wear jeans and t-shirts, ugh!

House news~Counter top was finally installed last Monday, and it only took 8 weeks and 8 hours!  We closed on Friday (yea, only one payment!!), we had our first party on Saturday for Becca's birthday (that's a whole 'nother post), school's out for summer (again, a whole 'nother post), and vacation is in a few weeks!

Getting ready to say goodbye

Almost everything is done in the new house...still waiting on the countertop and everything needs organized, but this weekend is going to be focused on putting the finishing touches on Waterman before we close.

All I have talked about, thought about and plotted to do for a year was to move.  We outgrew our little starter home long ago and are sooo happy with our new home and excited for the possibilities that the future holds.  But as the time gets closer to closing on the sale of it, sentiment is creeping into my head.  It was the first house that we lived in, the first house for both of our kids.  Already when we look at pictures, Livi says with nostalgia, awww I miss the old house.

No closet space, small rooms, no space for a proper kitchen table, one bathroom...what's to miss?  Knotty pine walls, the kitchen we remodeled, Livi's yellow room and flower wallpaper, Alex's half blue and half tan wall and construction border, pulling up the carpet to find beautiful hard wood floors, Papa Luchini sitting on the couch and figuring out that the light switch at the end of the hall worked the outside lamp post...and all of the memories.

Saturday (cont.)

Backordered...

Last week we  found a table for our eat in kitchen...backordered until June.

Found the same table at a different store...last one in stock was on the floor with lots of damage.

Searched high and low [5 different stores] and finally found the table, it was the floor model, but in great shape and we got a discount - FTW!
Oh, but we had to go to a different store for the chairs [the last 4 in stock] and we are still on the hunt for a bench and maybe 2 more chairs.

Curtains for the sliding glass window...backordered.

Bedroom furniture...1 of the 3 pieces backordered (not too bad).

This is how we spent Saturday, after the bad night of sleep and everyone lived!!!

Not to mention that we are still waiting for the countertop that we ordered -- in MARCH!! from the same store that took 3 weeks to tell us our carpet was in.

Saturday's alright for fightin'

We knew the night would be rough with both kids sick and the coughing and the storm keeping them awake, but you are never really prepared, are you?

Alex was fine once we kept Alivia out of his room, she just wanted to sleep with someone, she said.  I even put her little mattress next to his bed and she said, "that's just not working for me, mom."  I made the usual threats, if you get out of your bed one more time...yeah right!  I reminded her that she has slept in her own room, by herself, her whole life.  She has logic for everything, you know -- but this room is too big, the windows are open.  So I reassured every fear that she had and I finally got her to stay in her own bed...that was midnight-ish.  Sometime in the wee hours of the morning she had crept in bed with me and I was squished between her and Gregg.

OH, and the storms apparently did not sit well with the animals either.  I came down to cat puke and dog explosion!!

It's always something!

Be prepared world...mom and dad are sleep deprived and short on patience!

The kids are not alright :(

The kids are sick...both have fevers and Alex has pink eye.  Due to the fever Alivia was not able to get her school physical.

Luckily my parents are on vacation, so they were able to take care of them.  In the meantime I think they are filling out my application for worst parent of the year.  When will I be too old to be scolded by my parents?  I think, never!!

Alivia - 5 going on 15??

Alivia's memorable moments [April 27, 2010]

One - she was totally distraught that the weather turned cooler and she had to wear pants, not shorts.  As soon as we got home she wanted to play outside, right after she changed into shorts.  I told her, no way.  She ran up to her room any way and I heard Gregg say to her, "didn't your mom tell you that you couldn't wear shorts?"  Alivia screamed, "I won't be cold!!"  Dad stood his ground.  As she ran by me on her way outside, the blur said, "See, I'm not wearing shorts!"  I made her come back and show me what she was wearing...capris [DUN, DUN, DUN!!!]

What. Do I Say. To That??

Two - when I picked Alivia up from school she informed me that she didn't turn her check in.  When I asked why not, she said [matter of factly]  I told you that I didn't want to wear a cap and gown, so I didn't turn in the check.

Such logic for a preschooler!
